________________________________________________________________ Baseplate for a Bridge Pickup The baseplate (sometimes called a bassplate) is a steel plate that is attached to the bottom of a Strat's bridge pickup, then wax potted to eliminate any chance of microphonic feedback. Its purpose is to attenuate the highs of the bridge pickup somewhat, much like the plate on the bottom of vintage Tele bridge pickups. This fattens up the tone a little for those people who find a stock bridge pickup to be a little too bright. These baseplates have been prepped for easy installation. They have been coated with wax, and a ground wire attached. Installation is straightforward, and can usually be done without removing the pickup from the pickguard: - Place a piece of masking tape over the poles on the bottom of the pickup - Position the baseplate on the bottom of the pickup, locate it using the pickup's screws - Move a soldering iron over the baseplate's surface, melting the wax completely, then allow to cool - Solder the attached ground wire to the solder lug for the black wire ________________________________________________________________ |
